The Built Environments Library collects in the areas of Architecture, Construction Management, Landscape Architecture, Real Estate Studies and Urban Design and Planning.

In addition, some overlap in our collections occurs with the Art Library in our collection of design fields, e.g., furniture design history and industrial design and the Engineering Library in the fields of civil engineering and construction management.

Titles in architecture, landscape architecture and urban planning can also be found in the Odegaard Undergraduate and Suzzallo-Allen Libraries.

Research guides in the above five disciplines can be found here: https://guides.lib.uw.edu/research under "Built Environments."

icon unit aboutAbout

A library serving the Department of Architecture and allied fields has been present at the University of Washington since the 1910s. (The Architecture Department began its teaching in 1914.)

For many years previous, the School of Architecture's Library was located in Architecture Hall, but moved to its current Gould Hall location in 1971. Between c. 1950 and 2004, Betty Wagner supervised the Architecture Library and built much of its current collection. The present head librarian has been at work since 2004.
