Subscription Review Update 12/10: Principles and Timeline

December 10, 2020

The Libraries continue to balance UW community needs and available funding during uncertain times. With strong enrollment for the University of Washington’s fall 2020 entering class (see UW News) and the economic outlook in Washington state showing “continued, but cautious, growth” (see UW OPB), we currently do not anticipate additional budget reductions to the Libraries at this time. A subsequent budget contraction exercise will depend upon actual results from the upcoming 2021 Legislative Session, which begins in January.

For next fiscal year 2021-2022, we are planning for the possibility of a flat or decreased budget for collections on the Seattle Campus. The Libraries met with the Faculty Council on University Libraries (FCUL) on December 9th to review the Libraries Principles for Subscription Review and Subscription Review Timeline 2021. We will continue to share subscription review plans with the FCUL and update the subscription review web page as new information is confirmed.

If you have specific questions about this process, we encourage you to reach out to FCUL voting faculty, or your Libraries Subject Librarian.
